Gymnastics trainer Wolther Kooistra is demanding in summary proceedings that he can still go to the World Challenge Cup in Varna at the end of this month with his pupil Sanna Veerman. Turnbond KNGU recently decided that the coach of Turnz Amsterdam is not allowed to participate in the tournament, which will take place from 26 to 29 May.
“The association’s argument is that it is opted for peace and clarity within the teams, whereby the association wants the support team to be the same as much as possible. Apparently this means that Wolther is not allowed to join,” says Dolf Segaar, Kooistra’s lawyer. , Friday.
In the past two years, Kooistra has already been outside the lines due to an investigation into cross-border behavior by the Institute for Sports Law (ISR). “The KNGU’s internal regulations are such that as long as a procedure is ongoing, you can be excluded from participating in delegations.”
In April, Kooistra and his wife Claudia Werkhoven were acquitted of transgressive behaviour. According to the disciplinary committee of the ISR, it had not been sufficiently established that the trainers of gymnastics club Turnz Amsterdam were guilty of violations of the disciplinary regulations.
“After April 19, the way seemed clear again to go to tournaments, but he is not allowed to go to Varna. We want to see whether the association has made the right decision through summary proceedings,” says Segaar. The summary proceedings will be submitted to the court of Zutphen on Monday 16 May.
At least four reports were made against Kooistra and Werkhoven for transgressive behaviour. The incidents that emerged in the reports mainly concerned the period 2010-2020. The prosecutor demanded against Kooistra a suspension of sixteen months, of which twelve were conditional, with a probation period of two years. For Werkhoven, the requirement was a conditional suspension of eight months with a probation period of two years.
