Great excitement in ski jumping: According to her own statement, world champion Sophie Sorschag is planning a change of nations. The decision caused astonishment for the Austrian association.
Will Sophie Sorschag never jump for ÖSV again? In 2021, the 23-year-old won the gold medal with the Austrian team at the World Championships in Oberstdorf.
Afterwards, the ski jumper had to deal with serious injury problems. A cruciate and collateral ligament tear forced Sorschag to take a long break. The Austrian is currently toiling away for her return to the Ski Jumping World Cup.
For which nation Sorschag will then start is still completely open at the moment. “Unfortunately, the door is closed in Austria,” the winter sportswoman is told by the “Crown newspaper” quoted: “On April 27, I was completely unprepared for being expelled from the association. Because of this and because I want to continue practicing my beloved sport, I had to apply for a change of nationality.”
“There are several options, hopefully we can conclude that soon,” Sorschag explained. Statements that cause plenty of explosives, because the Austrian Ski Association has a completely different version.
“We wanted to keep her”
“It’s a shame for us, because we wanted to keep them. But Sorschag himself submitted the application for a change of nation to the presidential conference in June,” reacted ÖSV sports director Mario Stecher.
The last word does not seem to have been spoken on this matter. As long as no decision has been made, Sorschag must continue to concentrate on her training for the long-awaited comeback in ski jumping.
“I was surprised myself how well it’s going. My knee feels like it used to,” said the Austrian after sessions with her Slovenian private coach.
