The reason behind the outrageously priced laptops was a mistake that occurred at the group level, which was corrected immediately after Iltalehti contacted us.

On Thursday, exceptionally expensive Dell laptops were sold on the home electronics chain Giganti’s website.
The price of the most expensive model was a mind-boggling 20,159 euros, the second-guessing more moderate 17,509 euros. However, neither price was close to the fair value of the machines.
Gigant’s pricing expert Anssi Saari tells Iltalehti that the prices of the 14-inch laptops in question should have been 1,389 and 1,029 euros.
According to Saari, an error related to currency conversion had occurred in the pricing at the Nordic group level. New products are added to the system both automatically and manually, and in this case both ways have been possible. Individual products in the system, which Saari says are around 130,000, are not tracked manually.
– For example, tens or even hundreds of data products may be created for sale by several people every day. With this, the possibility of individual mistakes is unfortunately always there, says Saari.
Product sales in the company are monitored in real time. If an error is detected, it is immediately addressed either by correcting the content or hiding it while the correction is made. In this case, the error was corrected immediately.
However, Saari does not comment on how quickly it would be noticed in Gigant if someone mistakenly bought, for example, a laptop at ten times the price by mistake.
– Incorrectly communicated prices are in no way in the customer’s or seller’s interest. We trust our customers’ ability to pay attention and are grateful for the feedback that allows us to make corrections, says Saari.
Earlier this week, Giganti also sold outrageously priced cooking utensils, the sales texts of which were also hilarious.
