Young Ajax has done itself a disservice tonight. In Rotterdam, the team from Amsterdam was exposed by Excelsior: 6-2. After half an hour, the team of coach John Heitinga was still ahead.
The beginning was completely for the visitors. Naci Ünüvar put striker Christian Rasmussen alone in front of keeper Stijn van Gaal and the Dane scored flawlessly. From that moment on, we had to wait for the 0-2, but Jong Ajax failed to do so. Missing opportunities turned out to be fatal for the number three in the competition, as it was 3-1 halfway through. To make matters worse, Ünüvar missed a penalty at 2-1 by shooting the ball over.
Two own goals
Top scorer of the first division Thijs Dallinga got it on his hips at Excelsior. The striker managed to score again for the first time since December 18. He immediately did that twice. The other goals were scored by Reuven Niemeijer, Redouan El Yaakoubi (great bang), Anass Sallah-Eddine and Calvin Raatsie (own goals). Liam van Gelderen scored Jong Ajax’s second goal. The substitute right back was the end station of a nice attack.
Despite the defeat, Young Ajax remains third. The backlog leader FC Volendam has risen to ten points after 26 games.
