Excel Esports has qualified for the playoffs of the European League of Legends LEC for the first time in the organization’s history. A victory over SK Gaming made the success perfect.
“I’m really excited and happy that we made it through,” Excel’s Patrik “Patrik” Jírů said in the post-match interview. “It means a lot to us to reach the playoffs. I’m glad we were able to show what we’re really capable of.”
After a clear loss against G2 Esports the day before, Excel was still missing a win to advance to the playoffs. The opponent was SK, who also held on to a small chance of reaching the knockout stages.
But Excel put in a flawless performance and didn’t give SK a chance to get into the game. The British team not only made it into the playoffs themselves, but also threw SK out of the race.
That left only Vitality and MAD Lions in contention for the final playoff spot. The defending champion stayed afloat against Astralis, while Vitality lost to G2 Esports. The decision as to who completes the playoffs will only be made on the last day of the game.
