Exact location of new sea lock Zeebrugge recorded

The lock provides a second access to the inner harbour. In order to separate port traffic and through traffic from local traffic, a new connecting road will be built, for the time being called Nx. The new road will partly be tunnelled under: this tunnel runs south of the Stationswijk to the recycling park and further follows the route of the Isabellalaan.

In recent years, more than 20 possible combinations for the ‘Nieuwe Sluis Zeebrugge’ project have been investigated. Residents and companies in Zeebrugge were also able to give their ideas about this.

In 2021, the project seemed to be considerably delayed. “Then the Flemish government took several measures to catch up. The fact that the task force, which includes mayor De fauw and a representative of Port of Antwerp-Bruges, has now determined the design alternative, indicates that the extra efforts are worth it. “says Lydia Peeters, Flemish Minister of Mobility and Public Works.

The furnishing alternative will be presented during information moments in the Community House of Zeebrugge, on 22 and 23 June. New participation moments will follow in early 2023. The residents of Zeebrugge can then help shape the concrete implementation of the quality of life measures.

The aim is to arrive at the draft project decision by 2024. After the consultation responses have been discussed, the final project decision is then adopted.
