The ex-wife of former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates is no longer just going to give away her fortune through the charity she has with her ex-husband. Melinda French Gates wants to donate her billions to other charities more and more, writes business newspaper Wall Street Journal on the basis of insiders.
Bill Gates and Melinda divorced last year. In addition, they indicated that they would remain involved in the Gates Foundation, with which the couple donated a large part of their assets until then. That foundation has about 50 billion dollars, converted more than 44 billion euros, to spend. Should the cooperation prove too difficult, it was agreed that Melinda French Gates would leave the board.
French Gates already started his own investment fund with a philanthropic goal in 2015. Pivotal Ventures aims to deliver “innovative solutions to problems facing women and families in the United States”.
French Gates’ net worth is around $11.4 billion ($10 billion), according to figures from Bloomberg news agency. Her ex-husband is worth 130 billion dollars (115 billion euros), making it the fourth richest person in the world.
