Ex-Werder keeper
Rapid Wien goalkeeper Richard Strebinger is leaving the Bundesliga club with immediate effect and will join Legia Warsaw within the transfer window that is still open in Poland. The 29-year-old, who came from the youth team at Hertha BSC in Germany, was under contract in Austria’s capital for more than six years and has made more than 200 appearances with the Green-Whites in the club’s history. Only three keepers are listed in the TM database with more Rapid games.
In the German Bundesliga and its lower house, Strebinger had made the most games for Jahn Regensburg in the second highest German division. At Werder Bremen, from where he was loaned to SSV in 2015, he was twice in the box in the elite league of the Federal Republic. “He was always a good representative of our club and fought back after setbacks with perseverance and ambition,” said sporting director Zoran Barisic about Strebinger’s move, which the goalkeeper himself had requested. “I’m pleased that ‘Strebi’ is now in demand at an internationally renowned club and we didn’t want to put any obstacles in his way with regard to an early change. We didn’t want to stand in the way of his wish to change.”
The contract in Vienna would have been valid until the summer. The working paper for the Polish champions is initially just as long, but the club could extend it by another season in the summer.
