Honorary President Erwin Staudt has doubts about the competitiveness of VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga.
“The club has to do something during the winter break,” said the 74-year-old in an interview with the “Stuttgarter Zeitung and Stuttgarter Nachrichten”. “With this squad, VfB is relegated.” A third relegation after 2016 and 2019 would be “terrible”.
Staudt, VfB President from 2003 to 2011, missed “willingness to run and passion” in the 0: 5 at Borussia Dortmund. With a view to the unclear contract situation of sports director Sven Mislintat, he called for “a quick decision”. Responsible for this is the CEO Alexander Wehrle, who once worked under Staudt.
Wehrle has also hired Sami Khedira as a consultant – which Staudt welcomes. The 2014 world champion has “leadership skills and strategic skills”. Staudt believes Khedira is “absolutely capable” of a management role at VfB.
