Jonas Vingegaard had to stop the Paris-Nizza race in March after a concussion. Now he criticizes the race doctor.

Racing bike professional Jonas Vingegaard first commented on the concussion at a press conference, which he had already suffered in March after a fall on the fifth stage of the Paris-Nizza race. Vingegaard criticized the race doctor, who did not examine him for a shred of brain immediately after the fall.

“You could see that my glasses had broken, I had blood on my face and even a little blood on the eyebrow. For me it was a bit strange that they didn’t examine me for a concussion,” said Vingegaard.

concussion was only diagnosed at Vingegaard after the race

The two-time Tour de France winner ended the fifth stage and finished 16. According to Vingegaard, the concussion was diagnosed only afterwards. The next day he ended the race and did not start at the sixth and last stage. The Dane also had to cancel his participation in the Catalonia Tour at the end of March.

“I think that the future is concerned: As soon as someone has something visible on their shoulders or above it, he should be examined for a concussion before he can continue,” suggested Vingegaard at the press conference.

The current protocol for concealing brain in cycling stipulates that drivers should be examined quickly after a fall, followed by a check -up after the race and another day.

Vingegaard is currently preparing for the 112nd Tour de France in Sierra Nevada and his team “Visma – Lease A Bike”, which begins on July 5 in Lille.
