Berlin (AP) – Ex-striker Andrej Voronin has confirmed that he will not be Sandro Schwarz’s assistant coach at Hertha BSC in the coming season.
“Maybe I’ll come back one day, but not now,” the 42-year-old Ukrainian told Kicker. “Hertha and Berlin will always be in my heart. I’ve already been congratulated on my return, but that was premature,” he said.
Voronin, who played for the Berliners for a season in 2008/2009, was Schwarz’s assistant at Dynamo Moscow until Russia attacked his home country in February, but then left the country. In a media round on Friday, Schwarz had already indirectly confirmed that Voronin would not be part of his coaching team in Berlin.
Voronin once again praised the 43-year-old in an interview with “Kicker”: “Sandro relies on team spirit, takes a lot of time for each individual player. I think that we have improved Dynamo, especially the young players.” The Ukrainian said about his own future: “I’m open and I hope to be able to work in Germany soon.”
