Scored over 100 times in Serie A
Former Romanian top striker Adrian Mutu is Rapid Bucharest’s new coach. As announced by the League 1 club, the 43-year-old has signed a contract until the summer of 2023. Mutu, who played for Inter Milan, Juventus Turin and Chelsea FC in his active career, was most recently with FC U Craiova. Previously, he was in charge of Romania’s U21s, with whom he also met Germany in the group stage of the European Championship last year (0-0).
“Rapid is an important club in Romania. I’m happy to be here, but at the same time I’m focused on doing a good job and managing to get even better results from now on. Rapid has a unique spirit, built over so many years, with many supporters who bring that passion that I’ve always seen in the stands. (…) It is a great responsibility, the results of the past and history oblige us to give 100 percent for this club,” explained Mutu. After the 29th matchday, Rapid is in ninth place in the table.
The striker retired from professional football in the summer of 2016, and with 103 goals scored in Serie A, he is the 11th-best foreign goalscorer in Italian league history.
