Currently Udine’s top scorer
Lazar Samardžić moved from RB Leipzig to Udinese Calcio for 3 million euros in 2021 and increased his market value from 4.5 million to 14 million euros in the last twelve months after his debut season. Strong performances in central midfield piqued Inter Milan’s interest, but a summer transfer reportedly fell through in the final stretch.
“It was never a problem of money. I know what happened, but that’s in the past and I don’t want to talk about it anymore,” said the former Germany U21 international, who now wears the Serbia jersey, “Gazzetta dello Sport“. “I think positively, Udinese is a strong team, a well-organized club and if I stay another year it will be perfect for me. I want to have a great season here, then we’ll see,” said Samardžić.
Inter is said to have reached an agreement with Hertha’s homegrown team and offered Udine a transfer fee of 15 million euros. There is no trace of resentment in Samardžić: “I was and am calm. I immediately started training again, I played the second half in the first league game against Juve and the following Sunday in Salerno, where I scored a goal, I was already in the starting line-up. I’m not afraid of anything, everyone wrote to me but I didn’t reply to anyone.”
In the Transfermarkt interview at the end of 2021, he made no secret of the fact that Udine should serve as a springboard in the career of the midfield all-rounder, whose contract runs until 2026: “That was a reason for me to move here. Many big name players were here at the start of their careers. That showed me that the club can work well with young players.” In the recent past, this has happened to Bruno Fernandes (29, Man Utd.), Rodrigo de Paul (29, Atlético), Nahuel Molina (25, Atlético), among others. and Destiny Udogie (20, Tottenham).
Bierhoff, Sánchez & Co.: The most expensive sales of Udinese Calcio
Udine started this season weakly and only got three points from the first six games – Samardžić was always used, scored two goals and is therefore the most accurate player in coach Andrea Sottil’s squad. The Berlin native says: “I’m ready for a big leap. I’m 21 years old and in a maximum of two years I’ll be even more mature – in mind and body.” If Samardžić takes the next step, former club Leipzig will also earn money, because RB secured a sell-on clause when transferring to Udinese.
