In “mutual agreement”
Michael Tarnat leaves Hannover 96 at the end of the season as head of the youth academy. The second division team announced this on Tuesday evening. Accordingly, the separation happened in “mutual agreement”. The 52-year-old, who also played professionally for Lower Saxony between 2004 and 2009, took up his current position in 2017. His contract with the Reds originally ran until 2023. The club will announce who follows him “in due course”.
“After such a long time you always leave with a crying and a laughing eye. Five exciting and successful years with a great team are behind me, in which we were able to transfer some of our youth players to the professional level. An open and direct exchange has always been important to me. If you come to the conclusion through such an exchange that both sides are open to doing something new, then that’s a very neat solution,” explained Tarnat.

Sports director Marcus Mann thanked the ex-professional “for his dedication and commitment” as head of the academy. “I myself only accompanied one of his five years, but I always found the cooperation during this time together to be very pleasant and constructive. It is always a pity when a collaboration ends, but at the same time there is of course also the opportunity to give new impetus to the 96 Academy.”
