Ex-professional Daniel Martin calls cycling star Tadej Pogacar a child

A child’s picture of Radstar Tadej Pogacar gave ex-pro Daniel Martin reason for a provocative comment on Twitter. But Pogacar knows how to defend himself.

On the evening before the start of the Tour de France, Tadej Pogacar let himself be tempted into a virtual quarrel with ex-professional Daniel Martin. The starting point was a tweet from Pogacar, in which he published photos of himself on a road bike as a child with the words “when I was a little kid with big dreams”. Martin then wrote that Pogacar was still a child and asked if these photos were only three years old.

“Defeated by a Child”

With this flippant remark, the Irishman had apparently hit a nerve at Pogacar. “Three years ago you couldn’t follow me. So the joke is about you. Defeated by a child,” wrote the 23-year-old at 9:43 p.m., to which Martin replied: “I’m sure you belong in bed long ago.” Pogacar then had the last word, telling the 35-year-old shortly after 10 p.m.: “I’ll go to bed when I’m your age.”

So Pogacar seemed to have enough time for distraction. The two-time Tour winner starts his 13.2-kilometer time trial in Copenhagen on Friday at 5:05 p.m. Italy’s world champion Filippo Ganna and Belgium’s Wout van Aert are the favourites. Pogacar’s motivation should certainly not have suffered from the virtual bitching.
