Former Eisbären forward and Olympic silver medalist Frank Mauer is retiring from ice hockey.
The ex-national striker confirmed this to “Mannheimer Morgen”. “When I started ice hockey, I would never have dared to dream of having a career like this. But now the time has come for something new,” said the 35-year-old striker.
Wall came to the polar bears from Munich in the summer of 2022. In 51 main round games, the winger scored six goals and provided 11 assists. But even he couldn’t prevent the 2022 champion from missing the playoffs. His contract was not renewed after the season ended.
Mauer was part of the silver team from Pyeongchang, which sensationally reached the Olympic final in 2018. The attacker particularly shone with a goal in the semifinals against Canada when he slipped the puck through his own legs and then into the net.
He became German champion with Mannheim in 2015, then switched to EHC Red Bull Munich and celebrated the title hat-trick with his new team between 2016 and 2018. Now he wants to stay connected to the sport in the player consultant industry.
