Ex-NBA star regrets moving to Moscow

Former Swedish NBA pro Jonas Jerebko regrets his move to CSKA Moscow shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine.

“What I want to say to the Swedish people is that I apologize. I made a completely wrong decision,” said the 36-year-old basketball player in an interview with the Swedish news agency “TT”.

He only thought about basketball and getting in shape to maybe get back into the NBA, but not at all about the political aspect of his decision.

Jerebko is considered the best basketball player Sweden has ever produced. The power forward has played for various clubs in the North American professional league NBA for several years in his career, most recently with the Golden State Warriors around superstar Stephen Curry.

After being without a club for more than a year, the top Russian club CSKA Moscow presented him as a new signing at the end of March 2022 – just under a month after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

As a result, Jerebko was banned from his country’s national team by the Swedish basketball association SBBF until further notice.

According to TT, he has been without a club since his contract in Moscow expired in June 2022.
