Jürgen Klinsmann is still the national coach of South Korea. But his team failed in the Asian Cup semi-finals. Now a committee spoke out against the German.
National coach Jürgen Klinsmann is facing dismissal as a result of the South Korean footballers’ premature failure at the Asian Cup. After a crisis meeting on Thursday, top officials of the association spoke out in favor of parting ways with the German 1990 world champion.
“We agree that Klinsmann cannot exercise his leadership as head coach of the national team for various reasons and that a change in leadership is necessary,” said Hwangbo Kwan from the national team committee of the KFA association.
Committee makes recommendation to board
However, the committee does not make the decision about Klinsmann’s future. The committee passes on its recommendation to the board, which must make a decision.
Title favorite South Korea surprisingly failed in the semifinals against Jordan. It was recently announced that there were power struggles and physical arguments within the team during the tournament.
Klinsmann has been in office for almost a year. During this time the criticism of him never stopped. According to the South Korean news agency Yonhap, Klinsmann joined the crisis meeting virtually from his adopted US hometown.
