Ex-Munich Jérome Boateng in a career dead end

Since leaving FC Bayern, Jérôme Boateng has increasingly disappeared from the scene. At his current employer Olympique Lyon, the German no longer plays a sporting role. A farewell to the French club seems inevitable.

In the current Ligue 1 season, Boateng was only in the squad of ex-BVB coach Peter Bosz on the first day of the game. Since then, the now 34-year-old is no longer even a reservist.

At the start of the season, the 2014 world champion was combative and insisted on staying in Lyon. So Boateng decided against a change in the summer. As reported by “L’Équipe”, the central defender rejected a move to Turkey to Trabzonspor.

Lyon are interested in Boateng’s departure

Boateng’s situation could change during the winter break at the earliest. According to the “kicker”, Lyon is still interested in giving up the central defender.

Boateng’s contract with the French runs until the end of the current season. Then he could choose a new club.

In the past season, the long-time FC Bayern defender was regularly in the starting XI of head coach Bosz.

Muscular problems put Boateng out of action

He played the full 90 minutes a total of nine times. Boateng has made 27 appearances for Olympique Lyon since arriving a year ago.

At the beginning of the month, coach Bosz said about his protégé: “If he shows that he has his place in the group this season, he can play. I spoke to him: he’s fully involved in the project”. Boateng also struggled with muscular problems that put him out of action for three weeks, said the coach with a BVB past at the time.

Nothing has changed in Boateng’s role since then. In addition, there are currently no interested parties for the two-time Champions League winner. It will probably end in a farewell by next summer at the latest.
