Ex-manager and four business partners are on trial

Trial against ex-manager of Axel Springer SE: Dr. Markus G. (58) is accused of commercial gang fraud and infidelity.

Between January 2009 and February 2013 he was head of logistics for the publishing group.

The damage at stake in the process is said to be almost 6.5 million euros. According to the indictment, he installed a fraud system with business partners in order to enrich himself. There are said to have been bogus invoices for invented transport and logistics services. According to the indictment, the money went directly to the manager or to companies controlled by him.

Four business partners are sitting in the dock. Springer’s internal audit investigated the case. Criminal investigations began in 2014. The manager has been fired. March 2020 the indictment was ready.

The indictment will be read on Thursday. After that, the ex-manager wants to testify comprehensively. It could take hours, they said. He lives on Hartz IV today, he said at the beginning of the trial. Up to 15 years imprisonment.

Verdict: June 9th.
