Ex-Juve boss banned for another 16 months

A court of the Italian football association FIGC has suspended Andrea Agnelli, the former chairman of record champions Juventus Turin, for a further 16 months for irregularities in connection with an agreement between the club and several players on salary cuts during the corona pandemic. The court also sentenced Agnelli (47) to pay a fine of 60,000 euros.

The case concerns Juventus’ announcement at the start of the pandemic in spring 2020 that the players had agreed to take four months of severe pay cuts to allow the club to make ends meet during the health emergency.

However, Juve are said to have secretly made payments to professionals who only gave up a month’s salary. The club and other former Italian professional football executives involved in the case reached an agreement with the sports prosecutor’s office in May to pay a €718,000 fine.

In another case, the Turiners were deducted ten points in Serie A last season. It involved financial irregularities linked to alleged inflated values attributed to some transfer deals in the club’s balance sheets in recent years. Agnelli was handed a 24-month football ban in this case, bringing his total ban to 40 months with the new ruling.
