2nd league option in summer
At the end of January, goalkeeper Julian Pollersbeck switched from Olympique Lyon to French league rivals FC Lorient on loan and without an option to buy. Since then, the 28-year-old – contrary to what he had hoped – has never been between the posts. For the former HSV keeper, there should therefore be another change of air next summer.
“The primary goal is that I find a team that wants me and where I can play. The second league is also interesting there, but we’ll see about that,” Pollersbeck explained in an interview with “Hamburger Morgenpost”. The legal footer assumes that his parent club will not stand in the way despite a contract that is valid until 2024. “I don’t think Lyon will put obstacles in my way, on the contrary. I’m 28, I want to show again that I can do a little something. I’ve always hated sitting on the bench,” Pollersbeck said clearly.
Cherki to Mbappé: The most valuable players in Ligue 1
In 2020, after three years at Hamburger SV, the former 3 million euro purchase had moved to Lyon for 250,000 euros, but was only allowed to keep goal eleven times for the seven-time Ligue 1 champions (twice to zero). At that time there were 51 appearances for the ambitious second division club HSV. In his opinion, Pollersbeck would have benefited from the style of play of today’s coach Tim Walter. And with goalkeeper coach Sven Höh he was already on the same wavelength.
“Sometimes I think to myself: Hey, Meier, I would have stayed here,” said Pollersbeck with a smile. “The contract didn’t last that long, but who knows … but seriously: That’s how it is sometimes in football. Things didn’t go so well in the summer of 2020, so it was okay that we parted ways. Sven and Tim Walter came a year later.” When Pollersbeck left, Daniel Thioune had just taken over for Dieter Hecking, who had failed to achieve promotion.
