Ex-Herthan Haraguchi is already a full Unioner

Genki Haraguchi from Bundesliga soccer club 1. FC Union Berlin is still feeling elated after their third derby win this season.

“The derby win was very important for us. We also won the third game this season against Hertha. That’s perfect,” said the 30-year-old midfielder in a media session on Tuesday.

The Japanese international was at 4-1 win over Hertha BSC on Saturday in the sold-out Olympic Stadium, after his header goal to make it 1-0, he ran right up to the Union fans’ corner. “I was just happy. I played for Hertha and I’m grateful to Hertha, but I’m already a member of the Union,” said Haraguchi, who still hopes Hertha will stay in the Bundesliga.

High goals remain despite the three derby successes for Haraguchi. Haraguchi recently qualified for the World Cup in Qatar with Japan, albeit not as a regular. He wants to recommend himself in preparation for the World Cup. Previously, the midfielder with Union wants Qualification for the European Cup create. Haraguchi said that everything would be tried in the DFB Cup semifinals on April 20th at RB Leipzig.

The professional, who was signed by second division club Hannover 96 last summer, feels very comfortable with the Irons. He has featured in all three competitions and has made 37 competitive appearances for Union, scoring two goals.

“I developed very well as a midfielder in Hanover. I got even better at Union. That has to do with coach Urs Fischer,” said Haraguchi. “He demands a lot on offense and defense. I am very fit. I have a lot of experience. Now I’m the best Genki ever I think.”
