Ex-Frankfurt coach demands regular place for Thomas Müller

When FC Bayern tried in vain to catch up from a three-goal deficit against Manchester City in the second leg of the Champions League last Wednesday, Thomas Müller had to watch from the substitutes’ bench for 72 minutes. Former Frankfurt coach Adi Hütter doesn’t think it’s a good decision by coach Thomas Tuchel.

“Thomas Müller always plays” – Louis van Gaal once formulated this unwritten law at Bayern Munich. Many trainers have followed the Dutchman’s credo in recent years, only Niko Kovac hardly relied on the club icon, which almost made him flee.

Now, in spring 2023, Müller is no longer an undisputed regular for the second time in his long career at FC Bayern. In the all-or-nothing game against Manchester City, Thomas Tuchel came on late and must have given the 33-year-old something to think about.

FC Bayern: Hütter’s plea for Müller

The ex-Bundesliga coach Adi Hütter, who is currently without a club, believes that it was wrong not to trust Müller.

“Thomas Tuchel has to find the right formation. Not in the basic order, but in the staffing,” explained the Austrian on “Sky” and added: “The most important thing will be that Thomas Müller gets into the starting lineup because, despite everything, he Bayern Munich is the leader.”

The numbers of the veteran in the current season are actually still impressive: In 34 competitive games he collected 18 points (seven goals, eleven assists). Müller’s current working paper on Säbener Straße is valid until 2024.

“Relatively few goals” at FC Bayern

Meanwhile, Hütter believes that Tuchel will need some time to find the right rhythm with his new team. The coach also had to “work psychologically” to get his problem children back on track, according to the former Frankfurter.

It is striking that FC Bayern have “scored relatively few goals” recently, Hütter analyzed further. This is where you have to start.
