Ex-Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone arrested for gun in luggage

The eccentric Englishman was taken into custody at an airport in Brazil. He was carrying a firearm he said he was unaware of.

Former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has been arrested in Brazil. This is reported by the Reuters news agency, citing information from the local police. The reason: Ecclestone had a gun in his hand luggage.

Ecclestone wanted to get on a private plane to Switzerland in Campinas, but a Seecamp pistol (model .32) was found when his luggage was scanned.

Ecclestone admitted that the gun was his, but didn’t realize it was in his luggage. As a result, the Briton was temporarily taken into custody before he paid a bail and was allowed to travel on.

The 91-year-old is married to Brazilian-born Fabiana Ecclestone. She is FIA Vice President and a member of the World Motor Sport Council.
