Valérien Ismaël has extended his contract as coach of the English second division soccer team FC Watford. The club announced this without giving any details about the length of the ex-FC Bayern professional’s contract.
It was said that the 48-year-old Frenchman’s services had been secured “for a longer period of time.” The former defensive star from Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich took over the position in Watford in north-west London last May.
The extension came as a surprise because Watford have failed to live up to expectations so far this season and are only in 20th place in the table.
“It’s true that we haven’t yet gotten the points we were hoping for, but the work and progress gives us great confidence,” said sporting director Cristiano Giaretta. “You feel that something is changing and the atmosphere is positive everywhere.”
