Ex-DHB star Finn Lemke announces the end of his career

The former European handball champion Finn Lemke ends his active career at the end of the season. This was announced by his current club MT Melsungen on Wednesday. The defense specialist has been out for a year and a half due to a foot injury, and cartilage damage has forced the 30-year-old to retire.

His contract in Melsungen would have expired at the end of the season, Lemke should remain with the club in another capacity in the youth field. The 2.10 m tall right-hander is already involved as a voluntary coach in various groups and teams – also beyond MT Melsungen.

“I’m currently getting a lot of positive feedback from the various training groups. Everyone can see that I really enjoy this task and that I put my heart into it. I’m very grateful to the MT for offering me these opportunities,” said Lemke.

The backcourt player has been under contract in Melsungen since 2017 and appeared in 129 competitive games for the North Hesse. He played 90 games for the selection of the German Handball Federation (DHB). His greatest success was winning the 2016 European Championship title in Poland.
