At Twente, Sörensen made himself immensely popular by remaining loyal to the club from Enschede despite the relegation to the first division and bringing it back to the highest division as captain and star player.
After playing for Twente for two and a half seasons, Sören defended the colors of Feyenoord (1985-1986), Excelsior (1986-1987) and Ajax (1987) in the Netherlands, before ending his career with Portuguese side Portimonense (1987-1989). . He became coach of the latter club (1989-1990) and he was also at the helm of the English third division club Walsall (1997-1998). He was a Danish international eleven times, scoring three goals for his country.
