Ex-BVB star Alexander Isak before a mega change to England

Former Dortmund Bundesliga striker Alexander Isak is moving from Spanish first division side Real Sociedad San Sebastián to Newcastle United in the English Premier League for at least 70 million euros.

This is reported by Spanish media on Wednesday. The 22-year-old Swede replaces the Brazilian Joelinton as Newcastle’s record purchase, for which the Magpies paid 44 million to Hoffenheim in 2019.

The transfer fee that Saudi-owned Newcastle will have to pay could be further increased by bonuses. Isak moved from Borussia Dortmund to San Sebastián in 2019 for around 15 million euros after previously being loaned to Willem II (Netherlands).

For BVB, who brought Isak from Sweden in January 2017 as a 17-year-old for 8.6 million, Isak remained goalless in five Bundesliga games. He scored 33 times in 105 league appearances for Real Sociedad.

Until the previous year, BVB had a buyback option for Isak, but had it canceled in return for a compensation payment. Whether and how the Dortmunders now participate in the resale is not known.
