Ex-BVB professional Marc Bartra returns to Real Betis Sevilla

After termination of contract in Trabzon

A year ago, Real Betis let him go due to financial reasons. Now central defender Marc Bartra (32) is back in Seville after a season with Trabzonspor. The Verdiblancos confirmed the comeback of the former BVB professional on Monday.

In 2018, Real Betis brought Bartra from Dortmund for over 10 million euros and gave it to Turkey in 2022 for just over a million. Back then, the Spaniards struggled to register new players due to salary caps in LaLiga. Although Bartra then developed into a regular in Trabzon, they also parted ways there with a contract termination a few days ago – again due to financial problems.

Thus, Real Betis can re-sign the former Barça professional free of charge. With the departures of Víctor Ruiz and Edgar González, there is a need in defence. The contract is initially only valid for the upcoming season until June 30, 2024.

Bartra had defended at BVB between July 2016 and January 2018 and won the DFB Cup with the club in May 2017 after injuring his right arm and hand in a bomb attack on the Dortmund team bus a month earlier.
