Ex-BVB coach Jürgen Klopp extends early at Liverpool

Former BVB coach Jürgen Klopp has extended his contract as team manager at Liverpool FC until 2026.

“There’s something to report. I’m staying two more years,” said the 54-year-old in a video released by the club on Thursday: “I love our club. I hope we’ll all enjoy our time together.”

Klopp ruled out an extension just a few weeks ago. “My plan is that I will stay until 2024, and then it will be: thank you very much!” he said at the time.

Now he justifies the step with a wink with his wife’s wish. “Ulla wants to stay. And what does a good husband do when his wife wants to stay? He stays, but that’s not the only reason,” said Klopp.

Jürgen Klopp shapes the era of success at Liverpool FC

The former Dortmund champions coach joined Liverpool FC in October 2015. With the traditional club, he won the Champions League in 2019 and the English championship in 2020.

He can still make the quadruple this season: Liverpool are just one point behind leaders Manchester City in the championship. In the final of the FA Cup, the LFC meets Chelsea, who have already been defeated in the League Cup final.

In the Champions, Liverpool is about to reach the final after beating Villarreal 2-0 in the semifinals.
