Ex-BVB and Bayern professional Perisic about to return to Split after 18 years

On loan until the end of the contract

After speculation about this last summer, Ivan Perisic’s return to his youth club HNK Hajduk Split is apparently becoming concrete. According to Fabrizio Romano, there are concrete negotiations between the SuperSport HNL league leaders and Tottenham Hotspur about a loan until the end of the season.

Then the 34-year-old winger’s contract expires, and Perisic could then sign a longer-term contract in his hometown for a free transfer. While a loan at the end of a contract with a German club is prohibited by national transfer regulations, this is possible without any problems in most other countries. Perisic played in Hajduk Split’s youth team from 1995 to 2006, and then moved from the U17 to FC Sochaux in France for 360,000 euros.

Hajduk currently leads the table with 41 points from 19 games and six points ahead of HNK Rijeka (1 game less). However, Perisic could not intervene immediately in the hunt for the first title since 2005, but probably only at the end of the season. At the end of September, the former professional from BVB, Wolfsburg and FC Bayern suffered a torn cruciate ligament. At that time, he was aiming to return in the spring with a view to the 2024 European Championships in Germany.
