Ex-Bundesliga professional was without a club
Former Bundesliga player Marc Stendera (27) has found a new club six months after his contract with FC Ingolstadt ended. The former DFB junior will play for VfB Oldenburg in the future, as the third division promoted announced on Wednesday. The Lower Saxony are Stendera’s fourth station as a professional – before that he played for FC Ingolstadt, Hannover 96 and Eintracht Frankfurt. The midfielder was trained at SGE, made the leap into the first team in 2012 and was also used in the Europa League, among other things.
“We had good discussions and I’m looking forward to being able to play football at a high level again at VfB,” Stendera is quoted as saying in the club’s announcement. Sports director Sebastian Schachten said: “Marc will need some time to find his rhythm. However, it can be a win-win situation for all parties. With Marc we’ve got a seasoned player in the centre.” VfB is convinced that Stendera “due to his footballing class and experience will expand the group of leading players in the team”.

Schachten continued: “We had a lot of tight games in which we didn’t score. In such a balanced league, that has to do with experience, especially in pressure situations. Marc will help us in that regard because he knows the league and has already shown that he can deal with situations like this.” Stendera made 36 third division appearances for FCI in the 2020/21 season, down from ten last season – Stendera had his last assignment on December 11, 2021.
Newly promoted Oldenburg is currently in 16th place after 17 match days, just before the relegation zone, but is tied on points with pursuer FSV Zwickau (to the table).
