A few months after leaving FC Schalke 04, ex-board member Alexander Jobst is apparently drawn to the second division competition.
As “Bild”, “Sky” and “WAZ” report in unison, the 48-year-old takes over the position of CEO at Fortuna Düsseldorf.
The post is vacant from April because the previous club boss Thomas Röttgermann will then leave office. The 61-year-old had rejected an offer from the supervisory board to extend his contract.
“The board concept explained to me by the supervisory board did not induce the conviction in me that this is suitable for overcoming the upcoming challenges that Fortuna will inevitably face,” said Röttgermann, explaining his decision to the club’s media at the weekend.
Board member Klaus Allofs made it clear via “Bild” and “Rheinische Post” that he would not be available as Röttgermann’s successor. “I see my responsibility in the sporting area,” said Allofs. The 65-year-old appealed to the supervisory board to “work constructively and quickly find a viable solution” – this has apparently been achieved with Jobst’s imminent hiring.
Ten years at FC Schalke 04
Born in Hesse, he had worked on the board of FC Schalke 04 for ten years since 2011, most recently in charge of marketing as well as sales and organization.
Last summer Jobst had resigned from his position with the Royal Blues – also because there had been threats against himself and his family in the course of the bitter relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga. For Jobst “a red line has been crossed”, it said at the time in the Schalke announcement.
Before leaving, Jobst helped ensure that the contract with main sponsor Gazprom was extended over the long term despite the relegation of FC Schalke 04.
