Yevgeny Malyshev was a professional biathlete until two years ago. He was part of the youth team in Ukraine, but volunteered for military service in 2020.
According to local media, the former biathlon talent died in a firefight near the place where he was born. The report was confirmed by the Ukrainian Biathlon Association.
Several professional athletes volunteered to join the Ukrainian army. Dmytro Pidruchnyi, who became world champion in biathlon in 2019, is also fighting against Russia.
