After Hoeneß
TSG Hoffenheim is apparently looking to Markus Weinzierl when looking for a new coach. As the “picturereported that the 47-year-old, who announced his retirement from FC Augsburg immediately after the last matchday last Saturday, is a promising candidate to succeed Sebastian Hoeneß, who was sacked on Tuesday. Already in 2019 he should have been an issue after Julian Nagelsmann said goodbye.
Weinzierl’s contract expires at the end of June, so he is available for the new season. Born in Straubing, his statements after the game against Greuther Fürth revealed clear cracks in the relationship with managing director Stefan Reuter. For him it is the second departure from the Swabians after he decided to move to FC Schalke 04 in 2016 after four years in office. Weinzierl returned to his old place of work in April 2021 and saved FCA from relegation – as in the previous season, as in this season. In 38 competitive games, he averaged 1.16 points – 0.14 fewer than in his first term.
According to the report, this time TSG is looking for a head coach with experience, which Weinzierl would offer. In addition to FCA and Schalke, he also has stints at VfB Stuttgart and Jahn Regensburg. For Hoeneß, on the other hand, it was his first engagement in the Bundesliga after the Kraichgauer had brought him from the second team of FC Bayern.
