On May 27, 2022, Obi-Wan Kenobi, a Star Wars spinoff series based on the character of the same name, premiered on Disney+. As in the prequel trilogy, Ewan McGregor played the eponymous Jedi in the first season. Now the 52-year-old Scot revealed at the “Star Wars Celebration” event in London (April 7-10) that he would very much like to direct a second season of the series.
There are still no concrete plans to produce a second season, said Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm, in an interview Variety. She didn’t rule out a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi, though: “The show was so well received and director Deborah Chow did such a spectacular job. Ewan McGregor is dying to do another season.”
McGregor gushed about his signature role as Obi-Wan at the Star Wars Celebration: It feels “really good” to be back. “Something opened up in my heart,” added the Trainspotting actor. One final comment made fans of the show prick up their ears. He hopes “someone might think they should do a second season.”
Three new Star Wars movies in the works
At the “Star Wars Celebration” event, three new films of the legendary science fiction franchise were announced, along with directors. The first, to be directed by “Logan” director James Mangold, will be about “the first Jedi to wield the Force.” The second feature will be about “the escalating war between what remains of the Empire and the New Republic.” Disney+ series The Mandalorian co-creator Dave Filoni will direct. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, best known for “Ms. Marvel” will have creative responsibility for the third film. It will set the Star Wars universe 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, Episode 9. Daisy Ridley will reprise her role as “Rey”.
