Ewald Lienen leaves FC St. Pauli after eight years

Coach, technical director, brand ambassador: the former Bundesliga professional has filled a wide variety of roles at St. Pauli in recent years. That’s over now.

Ewald Lienen has announced his departure from second division club FC St. Pauli after almost eight years. The 68-year-old said he wanted to “move the center of his life and some of his professional activities back to the Rhineland”. Lienen has worked for St. Pauli since December 2014, first as head coach, from July 2017 as technical director and most recently as value and brand ambassador.

Lienen, who comes from East Westphalia, spoke of a “great collaboration” that is now ending: “I am particularly grateful that over the past five years I have been able to work for this special club in completely different functions than purely sporting ones.”

“Ewald Lienen is an outstanding person who has worked in various functions for our FC St. Pauli. We have experienced a lot together – and after this time together I can only say: I am an Ewald fan,” said President Oke Göttlich.
