King’s Day Amstelland – NH News

After two years of corona disappointment and a slimmed-down form last year, ‘the largest reunion in Amstelveen’ will be celebrated as usual this year. Hotel/café/restaurant Abina on the Amsterdamseweg has once again built a large stage where artists perform all day long.

Plenty to do in Amstelveen

Where on King’s Night the party takes place indoors, during King’s Day everything is outside. That means outdoor bars and tents selling food everywhere. However, this year’s party has a black edge. Clown Hoky Poky (Jan Wilhelmis) who normally made children’s hearts beat faster during King’s Day with various performances at Abina, passed away last week.

Of course there is also a large flea market along the Amsterdamseweg, where you can look, look and possibly buy. The largest free market in Amstelveen runs to the Graaf Aelbrechtlaan. In the Oude Dorp of Amstrelveen there is also a large free market, live music and you can relax at one of the cafes.

King’s Day in Amstelveen: orange tom poucen and roaming the free market – NH News

Would you like to celebrate King’s Day in Amstelveen on a slightly smaller scale? There are also free markets at De Meent in Middenhoven, on Westwijkplein, in Urbanuspark in Bovenkerk, in Catharina van Clevepark in the Randwijck district and on Stadsplein. During King’s Night between 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM you can also enjoy various performances and a light and fire show.

Like every year, the mayor and other prominent Amstelveners visit various neighborhoods in the municipality in a cheerfully decorated bus. The seniors are not forgotten either. Amstelveen Orange distributes more than 3000 orange tompouces in the nursing homes. “So that the elderly can also enjoy this festive day,” said board member Sandra van Engelen. Almost all Amstelveen neighborhood centers are open and organize activities. Only the Alleman district center and the De Bolder district center are closed.

Village festival in Aalsmeer

Aalsmeer residents are expected to flock to the Raadhuisplein again. Aalsmeer Oranje has to work hard this year to get the party done. “Two or three volunteers are still needed and we have had a financial setback, so we hope that people will donate something tomorrow,” says organizer Rob.

The party on Raadhuisplein is really a ‘village party’, as NH News saw last year. Children can play games everywhere, while parents watch with a beer. You can see pictures from last year below.

Of course, there are also various free markets in the streets and neighborhoods of Aalsmeer. Young people often visit the Westeinderplassen on King’s Night and King’s Day. The police and enforcement are widely deployed to monitor whether parties are being held without a permit, whether sailing is not too fast or under the influence and whether the music is not too loud.

Party week in Ouderkerk

In Ouderkerk aan de Amstel it has been a party all week. The festive week was kicked off last Saturday with the ring sign on horseback or by carriage. The traditional fair is open from Tuesday. On the corner of Dorpsstraat/Raadhuislaan, King’s Night will be celebrated tonight from 7.30 pm with a game of crate stacking.

On King’s Day itself, the whole village wakes up early. At 07:30 a sound car drives through the streets. “Good morning Ouderkerk!”, it sounds and every resident is asked to come to the Town Hall. The real noise parade starts at 08:45.

At 7:45 a.m., Ouderkerk toddlers are driven through the village on decorated cars together with the Orange Committee. This starts at Ons Tweede Thuis on the Schoolweg and ends at the Town Hall, where the traditional Aubade takes place. Children can sell stuff at the flea market from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and there are performances and activities.

Decorating a bicycle in Uithoorn

A whole program has also been put together for King’s Day in the municipality of Uithoorn. At the Dorpshuis in de Kwakel, toddlers can decorate their bicycles from 09:30 and then ride around the village at 10:00. From 11am to 6:30pm are here all games and the free market starts at 13:00.

Adults can enjoy themselves in the afternoon and evening during parties at various catering establishments. There is a Food Truck Festival at the Legmeer-West Event Park.

You should pay attention to this

To ensure that everything runs safely and without hassle, it is useful to go through the rules that apply in the various municipalities.

  • Municipalities are calling on people to come as much as possible by bicycle, public transport or on foot. Many streets are closed due to festivities and free markets and barriers may not be moved. For example, you can get an overview of all road closures in Amstelveen view here.
  • Check in advance where you can put your rug for the flea market in each municipality. In some places this is not allowed for safety reasons. You are also not always allowed to park a trailer on a party tent.
  • Of course music is part of a party, but it is not allowed to place speakers just anywhere. A license is required for amplified music. Also for the sale of food and alcohol by the way.
  • Commercial sales are not allowed. It’s about the fun!
  • Tidy up your stuff when the flea market is over. Otherwise you may be fined.
