Not many would have given Everton a chance against title-seeking Arsenal based on the standings alone.

While the North Londoners had collected no less than 19 points from the last 21 in the division, the balance of the Liverpool players seemed to be a poor one at the same time.

According to the script, this should have been an easy away win Mikel Arteta for protected roads.

– But now they have a new manager, new circles and we have to be at our best. The match is going to be really tight, the Basque player said in an interview with the BT channel.

There was wisdom in Arteta’s words because Everton had named By Sean Dyche at the helm of the representative team. It was the former Burnley manager’s responsibility to sort out the mess of a game that had left the Toffees group below the relegation line.

Dyche is not known as a football fan. His predecessor Frank Lampard’s the three-man defensive line used was allowed to go and replaced by a less sophisticated 4-5-1 formation.

But above all, a home team showing the will to fight appeared at Goodison Park. This time it definitely wasn’t going to surrender for free.

Duche already developed a very effective special situation team from Burnley. And the man’s touch is definitely not rusty. in the 60th minute Dwight McNeil gave a corner to the back post, and James Tarkowski I headed the ball from the middle of the crowd into Arsenal’s net.

It is no coincidence that both McNeil and Tarkowski played under Dyche already at Burnley.

Everton held on to their lead until the end, and thus derailed the Premier League’s top team to only their second league defeat of the season. Of course, Arsenal is still at the top of the table, but Saturday’s performance shows that the Gunners’ team is not as invincible as perhaps imagined a moment ago.

Only the fourth win of the season lifted Everton out of the danger zone at least for a while. It is now a point ahead of Wolves, who have dropped below the relegation line – albeit with one more game played.

Dyche had a real dream start to his Everton career. It was the Manager’s first match at the helm of the new club, and the result silenced even the last doubters.
