Everton and Nottingham are threatened with point deductions

Everton FC has already been severely punished for breaching the Premier League’s financial rules. Now there is a risk of further sanctions – and a second club is also affected.

The English football club FC Everton could be severely punished again for violating the financial rules of the Premier League. In addition, Nottingham Forest is threatened with a point deduction.

The Premier League said both clubs had each confirmed breaching the league’s profitability and sustainability rules. “In accordance with Premier League rules, both cases have now been referred to the Chair of the Justice Committee, who will appoint separate committees to determine the appropriate sanction.” No further statements would be made on the matters until the decision was made.

Everton already punished: threatens to fall into the second division

Everton had already been deducted ten points this Premier League season. An independent commission came to the conclusion in November that the Liverpool club had not complied with the league’s profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) and had exceeded them by almost 23 million euros. The teams are allowed to make a maximum loss of 105 million pounds over a period of three years – the equivalent of around 40 million euros per season.

Everton stated that the club had already been punished for three of the four seasons in question. “The club is currently appealing against this sanction,” it said. “The club believes this is due to a clear flaw in the Premier League rule book.”

Nottingham said it wanted to cooperate fully with the Premier League and was “confident that a quick and fair solution would be found.” Both teams are fighting against relegation in the table. After the points deduction, Everton is in 17th place, one place above the relegation zone. Nottingham is 15th and has 20 points, three points more than Everton (17). If points are deducted from both clubs, there is a risk of falling into a relegation zone and falling into the second division.
