‘Evert Santegoeds heavily hypocritical with statements about Jan Smit’

It is hypocritical that Evert Santegoeds wants to start an investigation into the merits of Jan Smit, but does not disclose himself, says communication expert Lars Duursma.

Lars Duursma, debate expert and the one who started the discussion about down television, strongly criticizes Privé editor-in-chief Evert Santegoeds. He finds it striking that Evert in particular wants to submit a Woo request (formerly Wob request) to find out what Jan Smit has earned from the Eurovision Song Contest.

Hypocritical Evert

It is touched on by Lars in the dreaded podcast The Communicados. “Do you know who I find hypocritical by the way? Evert Santegoeds. Two weeks ago you called him to ask what he pays his guests for interviews. He didn’t want to say that.”

He continues: “And now he was in the news that he wants to see what Jan Smit got. What is Jan Smit’s salary. Then I think: if you don’t want to say it yourself, then you shouldn’t try to find out from others either.”

Bit curious

His colleague Victor Vlam is a little milder. “I read it indeed. I have to say: I am a little curious what Jan Smit will get. So I thought his request was interesting, to be honest.”

Lars: “I find it so typically Dutch. From: something is not going well, let’s find out what it cost.”

Victor: “But aren’t you curious then? Because Jan Smit will probably get something like 40, 50 thousand euros for it.”

Lars: “It doesn’t really matter that much. In any case, I hope we come up with a better entry next time.”

Woo request

That Woo request from Evert has no chance, says Lars. “I can already disappoint him, because you will not find out. That is for the government, that is for a municipality, that is the case for a ministry. But the AvroTros is not covered by that law at all.”

Victor: “No, it is only insofar as they indeed exercise public authority. And that is indeed not the case here. No, no, no, no, no, he probably won’t find out.”

Thorn in the eye

Meanwhile, Evert continues to lash out at Jan. “It is a big thorn in my side how that boy reacts to the criticism. It is the worst thing he has done in his career: commenting at the Eurovision Song Contest,” he says this week Strictly Private. “He’s convinced he’s God’s gift to that show, but he really shouldn’t be doing that anymore.”

He continues: “He’s lost track of his own career. He should not interfere with others’. I think it’s a shame. I always liked him very much, I thought he was a nice boy, but he is completely at a dead end. And if you say you enjoy being criticized for your own failure, then you are out of place and deaf to all criticism.”
