Evert Santegoeds does not care about the criticism that Angela de Jong has expressed about the fact that he is in deep trouble with the Borsatootjes. “She doesn’t think I should say it, but I keep doing it!”
The role that Evert Santegoeds plays in reporting on the Marco Borsato case is striking. The Privé boss appeared to have known about the singer’s alleged misconduct for a year and a half when the news came out at the end of 2021. Yet he does not think he has kept this under wraps. But why does he keep defending him like that?
Scandalous Evert
Yvonne Coldeweijer thinks that Evert reports on this issue in a scandalous way. “I don’t know how Evert has the courage to convey it this way. This is not the truth,” she fumed last year. And when the Private Boss once really went too far, he was forced to retort: “I didn’t mean it that way.”
In any case, the exaggerated pity that Evert has for the Borsato family remains striking. Even now that the singer is actually being prosecuted, he keeps saying that it is all so sad for the Borsatootjes.
Angela critical
Angela de Jong is critical of Evert’s attitude. “He just said that he finds it all very annoying for the victim, but… Well, then you know what happens. It was all very bad for Marco and his family. That poor mother of his,” she writes in her AD column.
She is of course talking about Mary Borsato. “Who now had to see how her son, once such a celebrated singer, shuffles through Alkmaar in the evening, completely unhappy. Coincidentally, she had given an interview about it this week to Evert’s magazine.”
‘Paint on!’
Evert doesn’t care about this. “I said that I feel very sorry for the family. Those children were raised with the name Borsato and then all the doors opened and you received admiring looks. I assume you hardly dare to pronounce it now. I find that very sad. Angela de Jong thinks that is very opportune.”
Colleague Frits Huffnagel in Show news: “Who?!”
Evert: “Yes. Haha. I think: I’ll say it again, because I really think so. And: of course for the victim and of course we will all see it, but I think it is also a huge tragedy for Leontine, for mother Borsato and for those children.”
‘I feel sorry’
Many celebrities are asked for their opinion about Borsato. Recently also Mart Hoogkamer and Tino Martin. “Then you talk bluntly,” says Evert in the podcast Strictly Private. “They gave a very sensible answer, that you have to wait and see what the judge will decide. Yes, I should have said that at Shownieuws according to Mrs. De Jong.”
He continues: “But I do feel sorry for Marco’s children. Also. And you also have to be able to name that. But as soon as you do that, there are all kinds of people pointing their fingers… There are only losers, indeed, I hear that all day long. But you can also name them, those losers.”
