Private editor-in-chief Evert Sankrediets is not afraid that juice queen Yvonne Coldeweijer will herald his downfall. “We can’t be compared with eight lines on a pink background, are we?”
The traditional gossip magazines Privé, Story, Weekend and Party always have to go to the printer on Monday to end up on the shelves on Wednesday, where they then spend a week with exactly the same news. Is this still sustainable now that they have faced stiff competition from juice channels such as Yvonne Coldeweijer’s?
pink background
Private boss Evert Sankrediets thinks so. “I think a juice channel coexist with the ancient medium of a complete magazine with a medical section, reports and everything. Isn’t that comparable to eight lines on a pink background? I am less anxious about that than many colleagues in the serious press,” he says in Strictly Private.
Colleague Jordi Versteegden, show journalist for De Telegraaf, then asks: “And those sentences on a background, is that a sneer at Yvonne Coldeweijer or is your contact good?”
Quick scoops
It’s not a joke, Evert says. “That is to indicate what it is. Of course she has very fast scoops. With a leaf you can forget that. We go to the printer on Monday and are in the shop on Wednesday,” he says. That has drawbacks, but the journalistic success remains, according to Evert. “Like with Frank Masmeijer recently, that worked out quite well.”
Evert isn’t too worried. “Of course we survived all showbiz programs with the four of us. There are four magazines that all four still exist after the arrival of Boulevard. That gives citizens courage. In the end, the Donald Duck and the Privé will survive, I always say.”
showbizdino
Yvonne calls Evert a ‘showbiz dino’. “Is she right,” he responds in conversation with villa media. “I started when she was still in the poo. I am the showbiz dino. I texted her recently when we had the scoop on the reunion between André Hazes junior and Monique in Florida. ‘With regards from the showbiz dino.’”
That’s right, Yvonne responds to her juice channel. “That’s right, he texted me ?. I think it’s funny. He just didn’t have the scope, but he did have the photo in America that confirmed my scope. Thnx again.”
2.5 tons
Finally, Evert responds to his salary of more than 250 thousand euros per year. There is a lot of jealousy about this in the Telegraaf empire. “I did feel it in the building. People who hissed “pickpocket” as they passed me in the hallway. I don’t have to be ashamed of it, it was finally the moment that I could buy the car I wanted. A Maserati.”
Yvonne has already overtaken Evert in this area. Her private spy chat with four thousand members alone generates a sloppy 40 thousand euros in turnover per year. Ka-ching!
