Event tickets massively dumped by the Netherlands-Argentina: ‘My friend would rather watch football’ | Interior

Want to go to a show last minute on Friday night, and you don’t like football? Take your chance. For several events, many tickets are offered at soft prices because of the World Cup match between the Netherlands and Argentina.

‘My friend would rather watch football,’ writes Nynke from Groningen on the resale site Ticketswap. Comedian Henry van Loon will have to do without them on Friday evening in Amsterdam’s DeLaMar Theater.

Nynke offered her two tickets for 24.50 euros each, but there are quite a few tickets for sale on Wednesday morning for less. The cheapest tickets cost 11.30 euros. A total of 80 people still want to get rid of their ticket. “That is more than normal, so we think that the World Cup plays a role,” says a spokesperson for the theater.

DeLaMar does not expect it to spoil the atmosphere. ,, The room fits 800 people and it is completely sold out. It will still be quite full, so the performance will continue.”

For visitors who fear of missing out have to accommodate, screens with the World Cup match will be placed in the foyer. “That way the last fifteen minutes can still be viewed.”

The theater De Kleine Komedie also receives a striking number of questions from people whether they can return or exchange their ticket for the show by cabaret artist Tim Fransen on Friday evening, because they ‘can no longer’. Nobody admits that they prefer to watch football, says an employee, but all requests came in as soon as it became known that the Netherlands had reached the quarterfinals. “If they are through again, I expect the same for Tuesday evening.”

Hundreds of tickets

About three hundred visitors to the Muziekfeest van het Jaar – ‘the largest end-of-year spectacle in the Netherlands, with music from our own soil’, including Jan Smit, Tino Martin and Lee Towers in the ZiggoDome – are also trying to sell their tickets. It is possible that it concerns an event from last year, which has been moved to a new date due to corona. But the Friday show, during the game, sells more than twice as many tickets (301 tickets) as the same show on Saturday (131).

Several people honestly admit in their explanation that they are talking about football. ‘We are going to watch the World Cup,’ writes Rick, who sells two tickets. Destiny also sells three tickets because she prefers to watch the quarterfinals. John praises his six tickets as ‘a pleasant evening without football’.

Organizer 8ball Music confirms that there are many cancellations and that visitors are also asking whether screens will be placed. “We cannot put up screens, because the show is also broadcast with old and new on television.”

No show

The World Cup effect is not so strong everywhere. American singer-songwriter Madison Cunningham will perform in Paradiso on Friday. “We don’t notice it yet, but we think it will have a little effect. We take into account a little no-show,” says a spokesperson. “The show is definitely going on. From what we see now, it seems to be going well. But we keep a close eye on Ticketswap.”

There are no screens in Paradiso. “We have decided not to do anything about the World Cup. That is deliberate, it is a World Cup with a spot, which differs from the values of Paradiso.
