“The situation on the Antwerp motorways is largely in between. We see a lot of traffic towards the west, towards the Kennedy tunnel. We notice a lot of Dutch license plates.” They are on their way to the Belgian coast via the Scheldt city.
“Traffic will of course only grow in the coming hours,” Bruyninckx continues.
And the traffic on Saturday and Sunday? “That will depend on the weather. If that’s wonderful, you’ll see a lot of people leaving for the coast on Saturday morning. However, people who have booked an entire weekend like to leave on Friday,” says Bruyninckx.
The RMI expects a cloudy weekend with local showers. On Easter Monday it will be “very busy” on European roads, Touring and VAB predict.
Yesterday, records were even broken in the Netherlands, with more than 1,500 kilometers of traffic jams. We didn’t get that far. “The traffic jams that were there were mainly due to the bad weather. But there were undoubtedly also a lot of leisure trips in between”, concludes Bruyninckx.
