Even Tot Hier stays away for a long time after record series: ‘By Arjen Lubach’

The ninth season of Even Tot Hier is over and the men close with record figures. Yet they have been gone for half a year now. Why? Their TV colleague Arjen Lubach.

Even Tot Hier has become one of the big hits of Dutch television. The program of Niels van der Laan and Jeroen Woe can count on an audience of millions every week. The ninth season ended last night with 2 million viewers, good for a towering 44 percent market share on NPO 1.

Sky-high numbers

According to viewing figure connoisseur Joost Maiburg, it is the highest Saturday score of this series. “Only last week, when the program was broadcast once on Sunday because of the Eurovision Song Contest, more people watched (2.1 million),” he writes on his analysis channel Look at ratings.

On average, the seven episodes attracted more than 1.8 million viewers. “Despite the fact that the previous series was shown in the better viewed months of November and December, it attracted fewer viewers on average (almost 1.8 million). Season seven, which was shown in May and June last year, averaged more than 1.6 million viewers.”

Not until November 11

Despite all these towering viewing figures, Jeroen and Niels will not be back until November 11 with the tenth season of Even Tot Hier. What does that have to do with? After the summer, Arjen Lubach will start again with his daily show on the late evening of NPO 1. And Jeroen and Niels do not want to be on TV in the same period to avoid duplication.

Jeroen previously in the TROS Kompas: “We asked for that ourselves, because Arjen Lubach was on TV every working day. You don’t want to overlap too much. Then you can actually only use the crumbs that have been left behind.”

Marieke crisis over

What does viewing figure connoisseur Tina Nijkamp notice about yesterday’s viewing figures? She points out that RTL 4 is on the rise now that the Marieke Elsinga megaflop Alles is Muziek has been taken off the tube. “A cabaret show by Tineke Schouten attracted twice as many viewers, despite the long broadcast time (2 hours), namely 530 thousand versus 275 thousand.”

And what about the Gordon show What An Invention? The third episode attracted 402 thousand viewers (10 percent) yesterday. Disappointing, says Tina. “It remains a pity that Wat Een Invention has become a show with glamor and show. Because if something doesn’t fit with inventions, it’s a big flashy studio show.”
