Emergency services went out this morning for a mattress that had caught fire in a bedroom at the Esdegé Reigersdaal care institution in Heerhugowaard. According to a spokesman for the security region, about twenty people had to be evacuated.
With wailing sirens, the fire brigade and an ambulance car rushed towards the care location on Krusemanlaan this morning around a quarter to eleven. In one of the bedrooms, a mattress turned out to be on fire.
Of the twenty evacuated people, three people inhaled smoke and were checked by the paramedics. No one had to go to the hospital.
The fire brigade informs a photographer present that the fire has not been able to spread thanks to the sprinkler system.
The extent of the damage in the room is not yet known by the fire service. Nothing is yet clear about the cause, the spokesman for the security region said. “If there is reason to investigate this further, it will certainly be done.”
