Ex-boxer Eva Wahlström has tried to overcome her fear of flying that started in adulthood.
Boxer Eva Wahlström has sparked discussion on social media with her recent Instagram photo. The competitive athlete, who has finished his career, admits that he is afraid of flying.
According to Wahlström, the fear of flying only hit him in adulthood.
– When I was younger, I wasn’t afraid at all, it was fun when the plane swayed a bit and my stomach tickled. Flying was mostly that moment between training and competitions, when you didn’t have to be responsible for anything, but could let go of everything and relax, the boxer recalls in his update.

Wahlström thinks the reason is due to the strain he experienced in the final stages of his career. During the last flights, he writes that he had panic attacks. Panic could strike even before arriving at the airport.

– I think that in the last active years I was too strong: I ate and slept too little, trained too hard, lost too much weight, endured too much pain, tested my limits too often. I started to be in a constant state of alert and started to be strangely afraid of things that I wasn’t afraid of before. Most of all, I started to fear that Leon wouldn’t make it if something happened to me.
The boxer says that he recently traveled to the Canary Islands by plane. He thought he got rid of his fear. However, the problem simmered under the surface.

– It was difficult to sleep at the destination because I was afraid of the return flight. There was a little turbulence on the way home, and even though I know very well that it doesn’t cause any kind of danger, my hands were sweating, it was hard to breathe, my legs were shaking uncontrollably, I felt dizzy, the tears flowed.
Wahlström thanks the plane’s staff, because they let the boxer into the cockpit during the landing.
– I know that I received special treatment and it was a bit embarrassing. But I was extremely grateful for the care. It will certainly be scary next time, but I think the worst part of the fear remained in the cockpit, the boxer says.
