Actress Eva Mendes congratulated her husband Ryan Gosling on his appearance at the Oscars with a wink.
“Come home, we have to put the kids to bed.”
After Gosling performed the nominated song “I’m Just Ken” from the “Barbie” film live at the awards show, his wife reached out to the mime via Instagram. “You took Ken to the Oscars, RG,” she wrote. “But now come home, we have to put the kids to bed.” She also posted a photo of herself in the same outfit that Gosling wore during his appearance at the 96th Academy Awards: a pink blazer studded with rhinestones and a black cowboy hat.

Gosling shared the stage with songwriters and producers Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, as well as support from Ken colleagues Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir and Ncuti Gatwa, as well as guitarists Slash (Guns N’ Roses) and Wolfgang Van Halen (Mammoth WVH).
“I’m Just Ken” didn’t win the Oscar for “Best Song,” but the award remained with “Barbie”: Billie Eilish won the award for “What Was I Made For?” Gosling also had to give up the Best Supporting Actor award to Robert Downey Jr., who apparently impressed the Academy more in Oppenheimer than Gosling’s interpretation of the Ken puppet did. A highlight of the gala was the live version of “I’m Just Ken”.

Eva Mendes shared her support for Ryan Gosling several times during the promos for Barbie. In January, for example, she commented on the criticism that the Canadian had received for the role. “So proud of my husband. So much hate when he accepted this role. So many people who tried to expose him,” she wrote on social media at the time. “Despite all the #notmyken ridicule and articles written about him, he created a completely unique, funny, heartbreaking, now iconic character and made it to the Oscars. I’m beyond proud to be this Ken’s Barbie!”
